Annual gala dinner supports cancer care, research

The continuing search for a permanent cure for cancer offers our community the opportunity to stage an evening of fellowship and good cheer.

While researchers have achieved many victories in recent years, we still have lots of work to do. As the fight continues, our community has come to anticipate the annual John Randolph-Dr. Mark Ellis Memorial Dinner on behalf of The Riverside Cancer Care Program.

The 25th anniversary edition of our dinner returns four of Williamsburg’s most celebrated chefs to the Two Rivers Country Club on Feb. 24 in a spectacular exhibition of their culinary talents.

Last year’s dinner was sold out and we expect it will be again this year. The proceeds of the event support the ongoing effort of Riverside Cancer Care in its work to solve the challenges of a most insidious disease.

Those attending will include local healthcare professionals as well as cancer survivors and concerned community citizens as we advance the research which already has saved many lives.

Our evening memorializes two courageous men who inspired all of us to carry on the fight against cancer with our generous financial support. John Randolph served as athletic director at his alma mater, the College of William and Mary, where his notable career was cut short by cancer in 1995. Dr. Mark Ellis, himself a cancer victim, brought cure and comfort to hundreds of good patients, many of whom will attend the dinner in tribute to his healing powers. Mark's courageous life came to an end in 2010.

Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by the Power family of The Cheese Shop and Fat Canary. The elegant four course menu will be prepared by Anthony Rizzo, Executive Chef at Two Rivers Country Club, Tyler Busser, Executive Chef at Opus 9, Justin Dallinger, Executive Chef at Kingsmill Resort and Travis Brust, Executive Chef and Food and Beverage Director at The Williamsburg Inn.

The Memorial Dinner Committee gratefully acknowledges and appreciates the continuing support of our two Presenting Sponsors: Riverside Cancer Care and Erica and John Randolph Jr.

All levels of additional sponsorships are still available. Tickets are priced at $110 per person. You may purchase tickets individually or reserve a table for eight at a special price of $750.
