Many hands made for successful art show

On behalf of the Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center, I want to thank all those who helped to make WCAC’s 15th annual High School Student Show a great success!

First and foremost, we want to thank Chesapeake Bank for sponsoring this exhibition. Their continued support of this exhibit and their ongoing support of the gallery makes it possible for us to host this event and award cash prizes to talented young artists. We couldn’t have done it without them.

We also want to thank the art teachers at the participating schools: Bruton, Jamestown, Lafayette and Warhill high schools, Providence Classical School and Walsingham Academy, for the terrific job they do teaching art to our students and for selecting and preparing the artwork for this show.

Thank you to James Warwick Jones, artist and gallery manager at the Charles H. Taylor Art Center in Hampton, for judging this show and selecting 25 student artists to receive awards for their work. It was a formidable task to choose from among 131 pieces of art by 93 students. His description of his jurying process and his comments about each piece receiving an award were enlightening to all of us.

Special thanks to Annika Blake-Howland, Gudrun Kiel-Bullock, and Apryl Altman for helping to install this terrific show.
