As an old mailman, I have to come to the defense of the letter carriers in the Williamsburg area. Folks in the Last Word have rightly complained about getting their mail in the dark of night. But any problems are with the distribution system. Your letter carriers are working overtime hours to get you your mail.
It's been 60 years since I was a mailman in Bexley, Ohio, near Columbus. We got all the mail delivered by 4 p.m., even during the holidays. At Christmastime, they hired extra carriers. It all worked fine, except when one seasonal carrier got caught throwing some of his mail down a sewer.
Instead of complaining about our letter carriers, we should be thanking them. Maybe with a seasonal monetary gift to boot.
Merry Christmas to all.
