Dear Sens. Hanger, Wagner and Chafin,
Your leadership and courage were the key factors in causing the Commonwealth of Virginia to reach out and touch the lives of more than 300,000 of our most vulnerable and deserving folk. Today, May 30, 2018, shall be remembered forever as the day within which compassion and consideration reached across political lines to create life anew for governance and for our people.
I know the days ahead will be demanding as decisions about the most effective ways to enlist and engage Medicaid recipients are constructed. The collaborative and considerate process can and will further support and illustrate the importance of joining together in bi-partisan commitment.
The James River Chapter of the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy decided we must stand up for Medicaid expansion. I contacted the county police and presented our approach to assure compliance. Through thoughtful and constant Presence (19 weeks), we have demonstrated peacefully and encouragingly outside the office of the senator representing District 3. Just one hour per day, we stood with placards advocating Medicaid expansion and asked the senator to stop blocking its inclusion in the Senate budget. From reports I have received, the senator spoke about our presence from the floor of the Senate.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
