The Tribe (3-3), which led 45-42 at the half, lost despite Omar Prewitt’s 26 points and 13 rebounds. Greg Malinowski scored 14 points and Jack Whitman 12 for W&M.

After Prewitt scored the opening basket of the second half, Keene and Rayson sparked an 18-2 run over a seven-minute stretch as the Chippewas avenged last year’s defeat at Kaplan Arena.

Mo Alie-Cox added 15 points and four blocks, Jordan Burgess scored 12 and freshman Samir Doughty 11 for the Rams. VCU didn’t take the lead for good until Burgess hit a 3-pointer with 4:35 remaining and scrambled back on defense, pumping his fist, with the Rams ahead 67-64.
