William and Mary’s men’s basketball season is complete, after athletic department officials decided not to pursue a spot in either the College Basketball Insider tournament (CBI) or CollegeInsider.com tournament (CIT).

The CBI had interest in the Tribe, according to a source, and held preliminary conversations with W&M athletic officials. But officials decided not to participate.

Both the CBI and CIT are a rung below the National Invitation Tournament in the postseason pecking order. Both require financial guarantees to host games, but visiting teams have at least a portion of their expenses covered by the respective organizations.

The Tribe (20-12) finished third in the Colonial Athletic Association and advanced to the CAA tournament championship game, falling to Delaware 75-74. W&M won 20 games for just the third time in the past 50 years and advanced to the CAA title game for the third time in seven years under coach Tony Shaver.
