Former W&M catcher promoted in Blue Jays organization

Former William and Mary baseball catcher Ryan Hissey has been promoted to the Toronto Blue Jays’ short-season A team in Canada, the Vancouver Canadians of the Northwest League.

Hissey, a two-time Colonial Athletic Association First Team selection, is batting .308 in seven games played with Vancouver with four doubles and an RBI.

Hissey hit .355 with a home run and six RBIs in 10 games with the Gulf Coast Blue Jays of Rookie League.

The West Chester, Penn. native departed Williamsburg following his junior season in which he batted .290 with eight home runs and 29 RBIs.

Hissey was selected last month in the 14th round with the 422nd pick by the Blue Jays, becoming the 34th Tribe player drafted and the seventh in the last four years.
