Mike Powell has been promoted to the post of interim head coach of the William and Mary men's gymnastics program.
Powell, a former W&M gymnast who joined the Tribe's staff as an assistant last summer, takes over for Cliff Gauthier, who retired after 43 seasons as head coach on Jan. 1.
"It's a real privilege to get to work with these incredible student-athletes," Powell said in a W&M release. "Cliff Gauthier has spent decades building a program where men like these can excel not only as gymnasts, but also as students and members of the community. I'm honored to be the one carrying this legacy forward, and excited to see what lies ahead."
W&M men's tennis senior Aidan Talcott was rated in the top 100 of the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I National Singles Rankings released on Wednesday.
Talcott was ranked No. 72 in the country, garnering the first national singles ranking for a Tribe player since 2013.
Talcott was the highest-ranked CAA player and one of just two in the national rankings. Charleston's Alec Angraddi joined the Tribe senior in the national top 125 at No. 120. It marked the first national singles ranking for a Tribe athlete since Jamie Whiteford was rated No. 106 to start the spring season in 2013. Earlier in the fall of 2012, Whiteford was ranked No. 43 nationally.
The W&M (11-1, 1-0 CAA) women played at College of Charleston Friday in CAA action and their scheduled game Sunday against Hofstra was postponed because of the weather.
The men's game scheduled for Saturday also has been postponed.
