W&M men's soccer opening CAA play ahead of Tar Heels tilt

The William and Mary men's soccer team opens CAA play Saturday at Delaware, hoping to extend its winning streak to six games.

W&M (5-1) will then host North Carolina 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Tar Heels started the week ranked first nationally by TopDrawerSoccer.com but were upset at home Tuesday by East Tennessee State in extra time.

The Tribe, which drew UNC last season in Chapel Hill, is led in points this season by freshman and Lafayette graduate Reeves Trott with 10.

Women's soccer

Tyler Gordon scored the golden goal in overtime for High Point as the Panthers bested W&M 3-2 Thursday in women's soccer.

The Tribe (5-3) got a goal from redshirt freshman Sarah Segan and also tallied on a High Point own goal in the 55th minute.

W&M will host Marshall 2 p.m. Sunday before starting CAA play Friday at home against James Madison.

Cross country

The W&M men's and women's cross country teams opened the regular season on Friday in the 58th annual W&M Cross Country Invitational.

The seven-team college race was Friday night while Saturday brings a full day of high school races starting at 8:30 a.m., which includes Lafayette, Bruton and Warhill high schools.

The college division included Charlotte, Hampton, Howard, Mary Washington, Spartanburg Methodist, and Norfolk State in a 6K race.
