Williamsburg's community policing program expands across city

Threading the narrow space between parked cars and those in motion, Williamsburg police officer Kory Dodd keeps his head on a swivel to see familiar faces and potential dangers.

As Williamsburg’s only bike cop, Dodd’s job is not only to track down crime, but to engage with community members in ways that promote trust between residents, the police department and the city, according to Williamsburg Police Department Chief Sean Dunn.

“Law enforcement has been focused on quick response to crime. We don’t want to change that, but what we would prefer to do is to have officers so plugged into the community that they can nip things in the bud before they happen,” Dunn said.
