'Post-history' delivers tribalism, nationalism

Having lived in Williamsburg for decades and walked the streets of Historic Colonial Williamsburg daily, it is easy for me to recognize that this town was the cradle of American democracy.

On the other hand, I grew up and lived in Czechoslovakia and Hungary and had the opportunity to absorb the culture and history of both countries, marked by social and political upheavals, consumed by wars.

Czechoslovakia, where I was born, was a democracy between the two World Wars, modeled after the United States. But, as a result of the 1938 Munich Agreement between British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain and Adolf Hitler, Czechoslovakia was dismembered, then occupied by Nazi-Germany....
