Police: Newport News man charged in police stop turned fiery crash at busy intersection

Two people were injured Wednesday afternoon when a James City County Police Department investigator tried to stop a SUV and it tried to flee, hit a minivan and careened into a light pole.

The driver of the SUV, Aaron Michael Williams, 28 of Newport News, was charged with felony evading and eluding police, according to James City County Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Williams.

Aaron Williams was arrested on May 29 at the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office and remains at the Norfolk City Jail, according to jail intake records. He is held without bond.
