Bush speechwriter and Post columnist visits William and Mary

WILLIAMSBURG — The man who penned some of the early 2000's most iconic phrases was honored at The College of William and Mary on Monday.

Michael Gerson, who helped coin the terms "axis of evil," "rogue nation" and "armies of compassion" served as chief speechwriter and senior advisor for George W. Bush from 2000 to 2006. He now writes a twice-weekly column for the Washington Post.

On Monday, William and Mary awarded him a medallion and honorarium as the 2016 recipient of the Hunter B. Andrews Distinguished Fellow in American Politics.
