Tidewater area got more snow than it bargained for

UPDATE: Wednesday, Dec. 12, 9:30 a.m.: King and Queen, King William and New Kent schools are closed today. West Point schools are open.

The Tidewater area got more than the forecast dusting of snow Sunday.

The area originally expected to get 1-2 inches and instead got 8-12 inches over the course of Sunday, according to the National Weather Service office in Wakefield.

Schools, local government offices and many businesses were closed on Monday as the area’s roads were cleared and homes had their power restored.

King William, King and Queen and New Kent schools were closed again Tuesday as VDOT continued to clear secondary roads. West...
