Promises about the wall were hollow

Promises made. Promises not kept.

I remember Donald Trump leading a call and response at his rallies: "Who is going to pay for the wall?” Reply: “Mexico!"

That was the promise. Trump has gotten $1.3 billion from Congress for his wall. To date, about $250 million has been used to repair existing barriers. But Trump is constantly changing his promise, mostly to keep that portion of the Republican Party known as his base appeased about keeping people out. The American taxpayer was not going to pay for the wall.

Now Trump says Mexico is paying for the wall with the money a new trade agreement will save . As of today there is no new NAFTA. Canada and Mexico have not signed off on any agreement. The U.S. Congress has seen nothing and debated nothing concerning "details" of the deal. The important thing to remember is any savings generated if and when a deal is ratified, is the taxpayers money., not money from Mexico.

Trump has got to suck it up and go tell the Mexican president to cut him a check for $5 billion. Or he can shut down the border and cost the U.S. economy up to an estimated $100 billion.
