Hampton Roads band to raise money for New Kent charity

Hampton Roads rock music outreach band The Christmas Project will bring music to New Kent to raise money for a local charity.

The band will perform at New Kent Middle School on Saturday. Although admission is free, the band hopes to help raise money for the Forge Foundation, according to a news release from the band.

The Forge Foundation was founded by New Kent supervisor Ron Stiers in 2010 and works with those in need in the greater Providence Forge area in New Kent and Charles City counties. The foundation brings food to residents, helps neighborhoods clean up after weather disasters, provides clothing and shelter assistance, aids with utility bills and more.

The foundation, with the help of community volunteers, recently provided its annual Thanksgiving Feast and ensured community members a nice Thanksgiving dinner for a 99 cent donation. The foundation has served 10,000 Thanksgiving meals in the last 10 year, according to the news release.

Stiers said he and the rest of the Forge Foundation are grateful to those giving their time and talent to support their mission to help others in need in the community.

The Christmas Project concert will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at New Kent Middle School, 7501 Egypt Road.
