Community organization Proclaiming Grace Outreach presented the New Kent Humane Society and New Kent Animal Shelter with $6,000 checks on Nov. 16 to help the society and shelter’s operations and adoption efforts, according to Proclaiming Grace Outreach director Melanie King.
The checks were a result of the last Jenna Bash Festival and were donated in honor of Jenna Grace King, 17, who died in a car crash in 2008. The organization hosts the event each year to honor and celebrate the teen’s life and raise money. The organization sponsors a food pantry and completes minor home repairs around New Kent and James City County. Jenna was an animal lover, according to her mother, Melanie King.
