This training could help save lives

Three Rivers Health District and Three Rivers Medical Reserve Corps are excited to present free community education and training to the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula. After receiving a grant from River Counties Community Foundation, we have expanded our education program.

Three Rivers Medical Reserve Corps has already distributed more than 2,700 safe medication disposal bags, trained more than 370 community members in how to administer Narcan, and our newest initiative has already reached 30 community members training them to assist in medical emergencies until professionals arrive.

Opioid Awareness and Safe Medication Handling is a presentation that includes local statistics on the opioid Crisis. You can help curb the illegal use of prescriptions by knowing the safe way to handle your own medication. Each participant will receive safe medication disposal bags. You can learn these facts at Northumberland Public Library in Heathsville at 10 a.m. Jan. 30.

REVIVE! is Virginia’s opioid misuse and Naloxone (Narcan) education program for the community. This lay rescuer training provides the skill to administer Narcan in the event of an 0pioid overdose. Each participant will receive a free dose of Narcan.

Training will be offered at the Northumberland YMCA in Heathsville 6 p.m. Jan. 30; at The Edge Worship Centre, 3180 King William Ave., West Point at 6 p.m. Feb. 5; and at The Northumberland Library, Heathsville at 10 a.m. Feb. 21.

Until Help Arrives is a national initiative to empower the community to step up and help an injured person until professional help arrives. By effectively learning five simple steps, you could save a life.

Training will be provided at Rappahannock General Hospital Training Center at 6 p.m. Jan. 29 and 1 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Northumberland Library, Heathsville.
