Look closely, Peace is no conservative

Our good Del. Chris Peace is sending out mailers touting conservative credentials he simply doesn’t have. Typical of politicians who trot out their campaign slogans and platitudes every election cycle like clockwork.

What made a recent mailer particularly obnoxious was Peace touting the local government officials here in King William who endorse his re-election effort. It was a who’s who of the biggest progressives one could find. From our county’s commonwealth attorney to two supervisors and a host of other county officials who never met a government program they didn’t love and thought could be made better with some more of your hard-earned dough.

Even a handful of the School Board members lent their names to the effort. Peace refuses to support opening up Virginia to school choice, yet sends his own children to private schools. He throws more money each year at public education for political purposes; he has wasted millions for no other reason than to court the education establishment votes.

Peace gets warm hugs from Democrats and others who have done nothing that comes remotely close to anything conservative. Supervisors Moskalski and Hodges endorsing Chris Peace? That tells you all you need to know.

Peace and the names on that mailer have been and continue to operate with the same tax-and-spend policies that have driven us to where we are: A local budget that is out of control and tax rates at nose bleed levels with no end in sight.

Peace champions more spending, which makes him political soulmates with the names on that list. More money for schools, more money for public safety, more money for education, and yes, more money each year for the dizzying array of social safety nonsense. Peace and his endorsers have that in common.

Peace counts on the public-sector crowd and those with their heads in the public money trough to get him across the finish line. For those of you who have some common sense, read the names on that mailer and ask yourself a very simple question: why are these folks — none of whom are conservatives — endorsing a guy who calls himself one? It is about the money and about keeping it flowing. Peace isn’t a conservative and these people lending their names to his effort are simple tools to keep the game going .
