Rain expected locally as Hurricane Florence makes landfall

The local forecast calls for rain due to Hurricane Florence Friday.

The Category 1 storm is expected to bring around 2 inches of rain to the West Point area, according to a National Weather Service briefing at around 5:30 a.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service forecasts heavy rain in the West Point area Friday, followed by showers Saturday and a chance of showers Sunday. It’s possible early next week will continue to be rainy, according to a Friday morning forecast.

West Point, King William, New Kent and King and Queen are under hazardous weather outlooks.

Hurricane Florence has made landfall in the Carolinas. The storm has maximum winds of 90 miles per hour and is traveling west, northwest at 6 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service briefing.
