Driver killed in King William crash

One person died and five children suffered injuries when a truck crashed Tuesday in King William.

Police responded to a vehicle crash at around 10:22 a.m. Tuesday on Globe Road just east of Mitchell Mill Road in King William. A trooper’s preliminary investigation showed the driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado had been traveling westbound on Globe Road and lost control of the vehicle due to icy roadway conditions, according to a Virginia State Police news release.

The vehicle ran off the road then veered back onto the road before it hit a culvert pipe, flipped onto the driver’s side and hit a tree, police say.

The driver, who wasn’t identified by police, was declared dead at the scene and five children were taken to the hospital, four with minor injuries and one with possible serious injuries, according to police.

The crash is still under investigation.
