Three vehicle crash on I-64 East in New Kent; minor hand injury reported

A three vehicle crash on Interstate 64 East in New Kent left a driver with a minor hand injury Monday morning.

The accident happened around 8:02 a.m. on I-64 Eastnear exit 205, according to a news release from Virginia State Police.

According to a Virginia State Police trooper’s preliminary investigation, Barbara N. Patino, 40, of Chesapeake, was driving her Buick SUV when she hit the back of a Ford Escape as it slowed to a stop for another vehicle.

As a result, the Escape hit a dump truck that was in an active work zone along the interstate.

The driver of the Escape had a minor hand injury that was checked at the scene and the driver refused to be taken to a hospital. There were no other injuries reported, according to police.

Patino was charged with following too close and driving with a suspended driver’s license. All three of the drivers were wearing their seat belts. The crash remains under investigation, according to police.
