The College of William and Mary students will explore original choreography in an Evening of Dance at the Kimball Theatre.
An Evening of Dance is an annual production choreographed and performed by members of the Orchesis Modern Dance Company, a campus collective of William and Mary students mentored by faculty of the college’s dance program.
“Faculty mentor the choreographers, however they each develop their own concepts, create their own choreography, and run their own rehearsals for the spring show,” William and Mary dance professor Joan Gavaler said.
As such, every year of the production is different as the students selected to take part differs. This year, choreographers will explore images inspired by everything from emotional loss and recovery, to artificial intelligence, to Greek mythology and the Seven Deadly Sins. There are also vampires.
Founded in 1941, Orchesis strives to offer innovative concerts of choreography for the community. An Evening of Dance is the program’s main stage show produced in the spring. The company’s other main stage performance is Dancevent, which is produced in the fall.
The ticketed event is open to the public.
